A Message To Our Grasshopper Players
The St. George
Minor Ball Executive has made the very difficult decision to cancel the season
for our Grasshopper players this year.
Earlier this week the Flamborough Minor Softball, the league in which our Grasshopper age Spartans play cancelled their season as a result of COVID-19. We have also been notified that we will not be allowed on the County Diamonds through the month for June. At that point (assuming we can even get on the fields then) we will have lost the majority of the season. The remaining weeks simply do not afford us the time required to run a strong program for the players.
Full refunds will be made to all participants who had registered. These refunds will be made by Interac Etransfer to the email address you provided when you registered your child. I can assure you that our treasurer Natalie McDonald will make every effort to process these refunds quickly - but it will take some time. I would ask that you allow up to 2 weeks for her to work through this. Our bank platform allows us only to process a limited number of interac transfers at a time, so it would be extremely helpful for us if you could deposit the transfer as soon as you receive it. If you would like to leave your fees with us as a contribution to our program please let me know. We always welcome the financial support of our community.
For those of you with older children also registered to a team, we are at this point in a bit of a holding pattern. St. George Minor Ball is following the lead of Softball Canada and Softball Ontario as well as the other leagues we field teams in (North Waterloo, Erie & South Oxford). We anticipate a final decision from those leagues by no later than June 5th, and will at that time be able to let you know whether there will be a shortened season this year, or no season at all.
We know that the cancellation of the Grasshopper season will come as a major disappointment to our young players. We want you to know that we are just as disappointed, but know that this is the best decision to ensure everyone's safety. We wish you all a fun (& safe summer), and look forward to the 2021 season.
